Our heart and lung rehabilitation services
At UT Health East Texas, our cardiopulmonary and pulmonary rehabilitation programs help people return to their daily lives with the training necessary to manage their conditions. Physicians, registered nurses, respiratory therapists, exercise physiologists and trainers work together to deliver the appropriate care for each individual.
We offer the following heart and lung rehab programs:
- Cardiac rehabilitation: Monitored exercise, education and physician supervision come together to promote lifestyle change for people diagnosed with cardiac conditions such as angina, coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure or heart attack. Through this program, individuals receive the information they need to take control of their heart health so that they may safely participate in activities of life with confidence.
- Pulmonary rehabilitation: Therapists help individuals with chronic lung conditions to maintain a healthier and more productive lifestyle through the use of monitored exercise, disease education, breathing retraining, medication usage, bronchial hygiene and adaptive equipment and oxygen use.

Cardiac rehabilitation services
Our outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program is designed to support patients recovering from heart-related conditions and surgeries. Through medically supervised exercise, education, and counseling, we help improve cardiovascular health, increase strength and stamina, and reduce the risk of future heart events. Most of our locations offer comprehensive cardiac rehab services tailored to your individual needs. However, at UT Health Tyler, we provide the Pritikin Intensive Cardiac Rehabilitation (ICR) program— a nationally recognized heart-healthy lifestyle program focusing on nutrition, fitness, and stress management to optimize long-term heart health. Whether you participate in our standard cardiac rehab or the Pritikin program, our expert team is dedicated to guiding you every step of the way toward a stronger, healthier heart.
