About David Young MD
David Young, M.D., is a board-certified general surgeon at UT Health East Texas Physicians in Tyler. He has been performing various surgeries including gallbladder, hernia, colon resections, thyroidectomies and breast cancer care for more than 20 years.
“I was attracted to general surgery for a variety of reasons. I love the diversity of the disease processes and the different organ systems that are involved. This specialty requires knowledge of a vast number of surgical procedures and techniques. Surgery also offers a unique opportunity to have an immediate, potentially lifesaving impact on a patient’s life. I have found this rewarding beyond measure,” he said.
When not seeing patients, Dr. Young enjoys being outdoors. His hobbies include fishing, hunting, handloading, competitive shooting, leatherworking and rose gardening.

He was a no-nonsense kind of guy which made it easy to understand that he understood my particular problem, what he recommended I do, and what the typical outcome is. We did not discuss what could go wrong, but I think I am clear about the risks of anesthesia and laparoscopic surgery.

The extra effort that Dr. Young and his staff went to put the patient first and provide me relief was exceptional. I write this tonight after surgery this morning and am amazed at the absence of pain. That is the purpose of medicine. I did not realize how bad it hurt, until I now know how good it feels.
